At our dental practice in Wilmersdorf, we offer innovative Airflow technology for thorough yet gentle teeth cleaning. We use this method to effectively remove plaque and stains. The Airflow device uses a fine jet of powder and water to gently clean your teeth. This procedure is particularly pleasant and leaves your mouth feeling fresh. The system also reaches hard-to-access areas, ensuring a thorough cleaning.
Your dentist in Wilmersdorf uses modern methods to maintain your dental health. Experience the benefits of Airflow technology for yourself and schedule an appointment at our practice today.
With the Airflow method, a finely dosed jet of air, warm water and a very fine powder is directed onto the tooth surface. Soft deposits, biofilm and stains from coffee, tea, red wine or nicotine are loosened without the need for scraping with hand instruments. The powders used today are considerably finer than the cleaning powders that used to be common, so the method can also be used around the necks of the teeth and in the spaces between them.
First we examine your teeth and gums and make the deposits visible with a disclosing agent – this shows exactly where cleaning is needed. This is followed by cleaning with Airflow. Hard deposits such as tartar are then removed with ultrasound. Finally, the teeth are polished and protected with fluoride, and you receive advice on home care. We work according to the Guided Biofilm Therapy concept; you can find out more on our page prophylaxis and professional dental cleaning.
In conventional professional dental cleaning, deposits are mainly removed with hand instruments and ultrasound. Airflow works with little contact: the powder jet also reaches fissures, the spaces between teeth and areas around implants or fixed braces that are difficult to reach with instruments. Patients therefore usually find the treatment more comfortable. The two methods are not mutually exclusive – they complement each other within one session.
Airflow is suitable for patients with stains, for people with implants, bridges, aligners or fixed braces, and for aftercare following periodontitis treatment. If you have sensitive tooth necks, we decide on the basis of the findings which powder and which setting are appropriate. Please let us know before your appointment if there is anything we should take into account – we will adapt the treatment accordingly.
Depending on the findings, a session takes around 45 to 60 minutes. Professional dental cleaning is not part of the standard benefits of the statutory health insurance funds; it is billed according to the German scale of fees for dentists (GOZ), and the amount depends on the effort involved. Many statutory health insurers pay a subsidy, and private insurance plans often cover the treatment in full. We will tell you the amount that applies to you before your appointment.
Usually not. There is no scraping, and the water is warmed. Exposed tooth necks may be briefly sensitive – just let us know and we will adjust the powder and pressure.
For most adults once or twice a year. After periodontitis treatment or if there is an increased risk of caries, a shorter interval may be advisable; we will agree the rhythm together with you.
The fine powders used today are intended for cleaning enamel and root surfaces. What matters is the choice of powder and how the jet is guided – which is why the treatment belongs in trained hands.
Airflow removes stains, which makes the teeth look brighter. The method does not change the natural colour of the teeth; it is not a substitute for bleaching.
Yes, with the fine powder intended for this purpose. Low-contact cleaning is a particular advantage with implants because the surface is not scratched.
